䷵ 雷澤歸妹

歸妹以娣，跛能履，征吉。

象曰：歸妹以娣，以恆也。跛能履吉，相承也。

Marrying as a secondary wife — content in a place at the side. Like a lame person who can still walk. To set out brings good fortune.

眇能視，利幽人之貞。

象曰：利幽人之貞，未變常也。

Like one with poor sight who can still see — the constant way is not lost. It profits the quiet and retiring to hold to what is right.

歸妹以須，反歸以娣。

象曰：歸妹以須，未當也。

Pressing eagerly to be married and losing one's standing, and so having to marry as a secondary wife after all.

歸妹愆期，遲歸有時。

象曰：愆期之志，有待而行也。

The wedding date is put off. A late marriage has its own proper time — keep yourself and wait for it.

帝乙歸妹，其君之袂，不如其娣之袂良，月幾望，吉。

象曰：帝乙歸妹，不如其娣之袂良也。其位在中，以貴行也。

King Yi gives his younger sister in marriage; the bride's sleeves are less fine than her attendant's — substance valued over show. The moon is near full but not brimming. Good fortune.

女承筐无實，士刲羊无血，无攸利。

象曰：上六无實，承虛筐也。

The woman holds up a basket with nothing in it, the man cuts the sheep and no blood comes — the forms observed with nothing behind them, a marriage in name only. Nothing to be gained.
