䷡ 雷天大壯

壯于趾，征凶，有孚。

象曰：壯于趾，其孚窮也。

Power in the toes — pushing forward from a low position. To go on brings misfortune.

貞吉。

象曰：九二貞吉，以中也。

Holding to the centre and to what is right. Good fortune.

小人用壯，君子用罔，貞厲。羝羊觸藩，羸其角。

象曰：小人用壯，君子罔也。

The petty trade on their strength; the superior person has strength but does not use it. Even holding on here is dangerous — like a ram butting a hedge and catching its horns.

貞吉悔亡，藩決不羸，壯于大輿之輹。

象曰：藩決不羸，尚往也。

Hold to what is right and there is good fortune; regret disappears. The hedge gives way and the horns are not caught — like the strong axle straps of a great wagon, equal to a heavy load.

喪羊于易，无悔。

象曰：喪羊于易，位不當也。

Losing the sheep in the open country — the force is spent — yet there is no regret.

羝羊觸藩，不能退，不能遂，无攸利，艱則吉。

象曰：不能退，不能遂，不詳也。艱則吉，咎不長也。

A ram butting a hedge: it can neither back out nor push through. Nothing to be gained. Recognise the difficulty and hold your ground, and there is good fortune.
