䷰ 澤火革

鞏用黃牛之革。

象曰：鞏用黃牛，不可以有為也。

Bound fast with yellow oxhide — the time has not come, so hold firm where you are.

巳日乃革之，征吉，无咎。

象曰：巳日革之，行有嘉也。

Only when the day is fully come does the change take place. To set out brings good fortune. No blame.

征凶，貞厲，革言三就，有孚。

象曰：革言三就，又何之矣。

To set out in haste brings misfortune, and holding on is dangerous too. Only when the talk of change has been weighed three times can it be trusted.

悔亡，有孚改命，吉。

象曰：改命之吉，信志也。

Regret disappears. Changing the mandate in good faith. Good fortune.

大人虎變，未占有孚。

象曰：大人虎變，其文炳也。

The great person's change is as vivid as a tiger's markings. Even without consulting the oracle, there is good faith.

君子豹變，小人革面，征凶，居貞吉。

象曰：君子豹變，其文蔚也。小人革面，順以從君也。

The superior person changes as a leopard's markings show clear, and even the petty renew their outward ways. To set out on a campaign now brings misfortune; to settle and hold to what is right brings good fortune.
